About the Artist

 

 

Seraphim Design is the resurrection of what used to be called "First Glass Design" which was started back in 2009. I had recently been introduced to the art of glass blowing shortly after landing on Vancouver Island. I became obbsessed with this artistic medium and spend every spare moment in my friends glass blowing studio watching and learning. 

He had just recently bought a sandblaster and after teaching myself how to use it decided I needed to buy my own and start experimenting. In the beggining I was cutting resist patterns by hand which was very labour intensive and limiting. Later that year I bought a vinyl plotter and taught myself adobe illustrator and First Glass Design was born.

After many years of etching and shipping glass all over the world my wife and I decided to start a family and soon I was overwhelmed with so much of what life throws at you when you step into parenthood. I made the decision to close my studio until things settled down and I could focus on art again, and that time is now :)

Since I closed my store back in 2015 technology has shifted in a big way and I am now using a new sand carving system and have added photo emulsion film to my tool kit which allows me to push the limits of what is possible for etching.
